Tips for Healthy Eyes during Allergy Season

Have your eyes been feeling uncomfortable lately?

Allergy season is here, and for many, it brings itchy, watery, and irritated eyes.

Here are our some tips to keep your eyes feeling their best:

Avoid Touching your Eyes

Pollen and allergens can transfer from your hands to your eyes. We know it’s hard, but try to resist the urge to rub your eyes, as this can worsen the symptoms and increase irritation. Instead, use cold compresses to alleviate itching and swelling.

Use Artificial Tears

Keep your eyes moist and wash away allergens with over-the-counter artificial tears. Artificial tears can help reduce inflammation and relieve itching. If symptoms persist, schedule an appointment with us for prescription-strength eye drops or other treatments.

Use Protective Eyewear

Wear sunglasses when outside to shield your eyes from pollen and other airborne allergens. This can help reduce irritation and keep your eyes more comfortable.

Practice Good Hygiene

Wash your hands and face frequently to remove allergens. Take a shower before bed to rinse off pollen and prevent it from getting on your bedding. Change and wash bed linens regularly in hot water to remove any lingering allergens.

Keep Windows Closed

If you feel particularly sensitive to allergens, consider staying indoors when pollen counts are high, typically in the morning and early evening. Keep windows closed and use air conditioning to filter the air, and avoid outdoor activities during these times to reduce exposure to pollen.
